New from Handspan Studios, 4k Metal Shader Presets 1 for Iray. A series of richly textured metals and patterned metals with variable patinas. You can add as much or as little of each effect as your scene requires. You can control the color and brightness of the metals separately from the patinas which makes them very versatile. The patterns were chosen for their adaptability and would be at home in all kinds of scenes and scales from ancient artifact to sci-fi.

230 presets- Brass, Bronze, Copper, Iron and Steel in basic brushed, aged or assorted patina presets for each type and you can easily load in any of the other patina maps to explore different looks as well. Highly customizable and fun to use, many more combinations are possible. Plain metals plus 7 unique patterns and a large variety of patinas. The patinas are separate and the strength can be adjusted from subtle to super strong. As you turn up the patina the roughness of the patina area will also increase and vice versa. The maps are made such that the patinas will be strongest in the low spots and the shiny metal will be at the highest surface making for a very realistic and natural effect. Some metals also come with oily versions which is a slick rainbow top coat, also adjustable in strength via the diffuse overlay strength.

Both the patina textures and the metal patterns are seamlessly tiling maps and each could be used for other purposes. 4k texture resolution, 84 maps including bump, normal, specular and diffuse. Each patterned metal preset will load with the pattern normal in the topcoat bump slot as well but you can use the bumpy surface texture or brushed surface texture presets to change that for a slightly different effect. Includes utility presets to make normal and topcoat normals off, 50% and full strength. Tiling presets 1x-9x and Metalcity on, 50% and off.

This set is a merchant resource and can be used in making UV map textures for sale.

Additional Details

  • Shaders are very lighting dependent. If a shader comes up too shiny or dull you can adjust it through the glossiness or the top coat channel, a darker color or lower value will be less shiny, higher roughness will look more matte. The lighting used to create the promo images was the sun and sky only at 5pm, it was saved in the render settings preset that is included.
  • The patina part of the metals is applied via the diffuse overlay, if you want to adjust the patina strength try changing it there, you can also make the patina darker and weaker by adding darker grey color value there. The darker the color the fainter it will be making true black a hard effect to get. You can change the metallic look of the metal by adjusting the color or strength of the top coat and/or metallicity.
  • Each preset will reset the tiling to the original number so you will want to adjust the size last, after all the others. This is done in the “horizontal tiles” and “vertical tiles” parameters or you can use the quick settings in the main folder to change them with one click to x1, 2x, 3x, 5x, 7x or 9x. The x and y numbers should match unless you want to create a stretched look or sometimes objects like spheres look stretched and you can adjust one parameter to compensate. You can use the offset numbers to make the pattern repeat in a slightly different place on the x or y axis, useful for lining up a pattern with your item. If the pattern looks fuzzy or blocky make those parameters a higher number (more repeats of the texture, this is unlikely to be needed at such high resolution.) if you get a digital noise look then the pattern is too small and reduce the number of repeats until it looks right. You can also reduce the texture size itself to save on resources, they still look great at 2048.
  • If nothing happens at all, make sure you have your model selected from the Parameters tab *Drop Down list* and also your material in the Surfaces tab before applying the shader. Overlay patterns and top coat effects will not show (in preview mode) until fully rendered.
  • The textures can also be used in any paint program with a texture fill function or a texture brush to paint UV map textures, they are a merchant resource as well. They may not be redistributed or resold in their original tiling form or as a texture resource. Thank you for your support.
