Perfect portrait lighting for characters with mid to tan skintones. Set includes 17 light sets with matched tone mapping to get the exact results that are shown in the promotional images. Light sets are created using a combination of spotlight photometric lights and emssion lighting. Each set has a null light focus that the lights are parented to so that moving them up or down or turning them to match a pose is easy to do. Because the sets do not use an HDRI they can be used inside as well as in open spaces.

It also includes cameras as both camara presets that over write the existing camera in the scene or as a file that will add another camera to your scene.

There is a simple three walled space with a floor that can be used for portraits. It has 8 solid material options as well. Lastly to round out the set is a setting that you can higher quality render settings and another that can be used to lengthen the time your render will run if you need it.

Additional Details

  • Lights are located in the Scintillant Portrait Lights folder. In that folder you will find one that has lights, one with cameras and two extra files to change render settings, another for the prop and its materials .
  • Each lighting set up consists of two files. One will be for the lighting and the other will set the render to scene only and set the proper tone mapping. You will need to apply both files from the pair to get lighting that matches that shown in the promos and thumbnails. Because these are scene only lights they can be used inside closed spaces without any change to the lighting.
  • These lights are created with both spots and emission lighting so if you want to remove them you should delete them from the scene tab. All of the lights in the scene are aimed at focus null and then parented to it. The null should be located in or close to the head of the main character you are lighting. If you need to move the light set down select the “Light focus” and move it not the individual lights. If you need to rotate them you can also rotate the focus. Be careful not to move the lights closer or away from the figure as that will effect the light levels in the final render.
  • There are two kinds of camera files. One will replace which ever camera is already loaded in the scene and the other will add an additional camera to the scene. The cameras were created to be used at approximately the distance from the figure that they load. You can move them back and forth a bit without it negative effect but major changes should be done with a camera that is more suited distance wise. This is especially true for the head camera.
  • Also included are settings to increase the quality of your render to the settings I used for my renders. Another can be used to increase the amount of time that your image can be rendered before an automatic shut of. You will only need to use that if your computer is slower/older and regularly times out before a render is resolved enough for you. If you do use that setting you can manually end the render when you feel it is done.
  • There is a very simple prop included for your renders. It has 8 solid materials that you can select from. It isn't necessary to use the prop to use the lights but I wanted to include it so that people could get the exact results I did if they wanted to.
  • All the promos were done with the default Iray settings for Daz's Victoria 7 and Michael 7 updated for 4.9 so images so results using those settings will be the most similar to the promos. However, you should get similar results with any mid toned to tan character that uses Iray settings.
