Homo Erectus (from the Latin erigere, “to put up, set upright”) appears to have evolved in Africa about 1.8 million years ago. This species migrated first to Asia and then to Europe where they later became extinct. Research places the timing of the Homo Erectus between Homo Habilis and the earliest appearance of Homo Sapiens.
