  • General Solar System Notes:
  • Posing the Orbit & Axis:
    • The Solar System Super Bundle products are rigged with integrated orbit and axis controls. This setup allows for multiple levels of orbital and axial pivoting just as the real moons and planets have. To do this, all satellites, moons and planets have their own Prop within each of their own Group Body parent. So for instance the Moon Prop can rotate on its own axis based on its Prop parameters, while its Moon Group parent has its own orbit control parameters which are pivoted at the Earth's center, and the Earth also spins on its axis while orbiting around the Sun’s center. This allows each moon and satellite to spin on its own axis while orbiting their respective planet perfectly even as each planet orbits the Sun.
  • Rendering:
    • For best rendering results lower the Shading Rate in Render Settings as low as possible. In Poser there is also a per object Shading Rate setting in the Properties of each selected object. Please note all product page images were rendered using the Poser versions. The DAZ Studio versions are very similar but may vary depending on the prop. The atmospheres are probably the most pronounced difference and renders better in Poser however the DAZ Studio versions still render very nicely. If texture seams appear on any planet’s surface, simply lower the Shading Rate in Render Settings to lowest value possible which will eliminate the seams when rendered.
  • Lighting:
    • Multiple lights and complicated light sets are not necessary to create a realistic outer space scene. Only a single Direct or Distant light with shadows OFF is all that is needed to make your scene have the look and feel of outer space. If you think about it, there is only a single light source in the real outer space, the Sun. If you render with shadows on you might find that shadow artifacts appear on the planet's surfaces. Turn shadows off to resolve this issue.
  • Star Dome:
    • There are two Star Domes, a smaller one for rendering individual bodies and a larger one to encompass the entire Solar System. Adjusting the Ambient value of the Star Dome controls how bright or dim the stars can be. Pointing a light toward the Star Dome also brightens the stars but no light is necessary with a high enough Ambient value. There are also presets which allow the toggling on and off of the Milky Way galaxy. If you choose not to render with a Star Dome it is recommended to at least make your background color black so that the atmospheres reveal themselves more brightly. For the sharpest renders of the stars be sure Shading Rate is low as possible in Render Settings. In Poser also set the object shading rate to 0 in the object Properties.
  • Earth and Graphic Earth:
    • The Graphic Earth presets must be used with the Graphic Earth. The 12 Months of Earth and Earth at Night presets must be used with the Earth or Earth & Moon.
  • Poser Only:
  • Rendering:
    • Some of the elements have displacement maps so be sure to have Use Displacement Maps checked on in Render Settings.
  • Atmospheres:
    • The Earth and Sun have unique 3D procedural glowing atmospheres in the Poser version. The Earth and Sun atmospheres are not visible in OpenGL preview mode, however by right clicking in the Poser document window and switching from OpenGL to SreeD you can view a real-time low quality preview of the atmospheres although the preview is not necessary and either way the atmospheres will render the same. SreeD previewing may be helpful in adjusting the parameters of the atmospheres. The atmospheres on the Earth and Sun are made of two halves to provide flexibility when creating a scene. The rear of the atmospheres glow intensely for Sci-Fi effects with a softer falloff toward the front for more realistic effects. This allows for multiple types of atmospheric effects to be possible. When initially loading the Earth the front of the atmospheres are setup to view Africa realistically. If you move the camera to render another part of Earth it will be necessary to rotate the atmosphere likewise otherwise the intense blue Sci-Fi glow of the rear of the atmosphere will be revealed. The atmosphere is not meant to render the same from every angle so be prepared to rotate and adjust it to suit your needs and take advantage of the different possible looks it offers. Again, please be aware that switching to SreeD preview mode will give you a real-time preview so you can see the falloff of the atmosphere and have a better idea of how to properly rotate it depending on your camera angle.
    • The remaining planets have simpler atmospheres different from the Earth and Sun. These simpler atmospheres don’t preview accurate transparency within Poser and the planets other than Earth may appear strange upon loading, so it will be necessary to test render or turn atmosphere visibility off in order to see what the planets look like in real-time preview mode.
  • Star Dome:
    • Poser may occasionally experience a bug when rendering the Star Dome which produces artifacts and smeared stars. If you export the images to the .jpg format the artifacts will not be there and your render will look perfect regardless of what you see inside the Poser render window. However if you export using the .png format the artifacts will show up.
  • Camera & Solar System Complete Presets:
    • There is a Camera preset as well as Solar System Complete presets in the Figures and Scene categories included with the Poser version. The Figure and Scene presets are nearly the same and include the complete solar system setup. When loading the Figure version of the Solar System Complete or when loading the Star Dome Solar System at first glance you will notice they are not fully visible. That is because the default settings on Poser’s Main Camera have a Yon value that is not appropriate for large scenes thus creating a Clipping Plane effect and limiting the field of view. This is remedied by either manually increasing the Yon value of the current camera used, or by applying the Camera preset included. There is also a Solar System Complete Scene included which is identical to the Figure version with the added benefit of including the optimized camera to view the entire Solar System.
  • DAZ Studio 4.5 Only:
  • DSON/DUF files in DAZ Studio 4.5:
    • Solar System Super Bundle utilizes the new DSON/DUF file format and requires DAZ 4.5 or newer be installed.
  • Atmospheres and Camera Pointing:
    • DAZ Studio as of version 4.5 does not support 3D procedural glow effects as optimally as the Poser versions, so the Earth and Sun atmospheres provided in the DAZ Studio versions are image planes which are by default pointed to the camera so that the plane will always face the camera. In order to make this possible a new custom camera is automatically loaded when loading the Earth or Sun. Sometimes when loading multiple props and cameras the Earth or Sun atmosphere plane may not properly point to the custom camera, if so, start a new scene and load the desired Earth or Sun product first, then build your scene to insure the atmosphere plane will always point to the camera.
    • The remaining planets have simpler atmospheres different from the Earth and Sun. These simpler atmospheres don’t preview accurate transparency within DAZ Studio so the planets other than Earth may appear hazy upon loading, so it will be necessary to test render or turn atmosphere visibility off in order to see what the planets look like in realtime preview mode.
  • Earth At Night:
    • The Earth At Night presets require you have the Earth prop selected within the Earth Group. All other presets only require you have any part of the Group selected. Also as of DAZ Studio 4.5 there is no real-time preview of the Earth At Night textures so you will have to test render to see what they look like. If the preset is properly applied you will notice the Earth brightens in the preview. While using Earth At Night in DAZ Studio, texture filtering problems may arise which blends colors from the diffuse texture into the lights causing lights to become mixed with the green colors found in the diffuse textures. The renders still look good like this, but for maximum brightness and evenly lit city lights you can disable the diffuse textures leaving only the ambient and specular textures.
